Travis’ Discipleship Update Feb 2022

Discipleship is much more fun in person even though I am grateful for Zoom.

Vancouver, Canada

Our Thursday night class that meets at our office in New Westminster has been a great place to spur one another to love and good deeds. We have started Book 2 and have had some great discussions around obedience and what it means to follow Christ in this fallen world. This group is made up of young men who are active in sharing their faith but are wanting to get grounded in the Word.

We have added another student to our Thursday morning groups with guys from P*tan and India. This class continues to bear much fruit as all of the students have already started at least one discipleship class of their own.

This group is such a joy to be with as they all hunger to not just gain knowledge but to train others.

East Africa

Our other weekly group Tuesday mornings in East Africa has had its challenges with internet connections but I am continuing to record each session and we have a stable group coming from Kenya, Uganda and Congo. Please be praying for all three of these weekly discipleship groups.

A big part of the ministry continues to be meeting one-on-one with men as we get together for sharing quiet times, Bible Study and praying together. Please lift up in prayer these men who are dealing with all kinds of struggles with things, like marriage, loneliness, sickness, kids who have fallen away and other challenges.

Mission Central (Mission Fest)

The last weekend in January we were participating in this year's Mission Central (Mission Fest). This year was on-line again and Jason and I shared a seminar called How do I become an Alongsider? focusing on one on one discipleship. We had a group time of teaching and discussion in the seminar and the rest of our staff spent time on the conference platform connecting and meeting with people from all over the world with a heart for missions.

One of the best parts of the conference is connecting with the other ministries and hearing their passion for the work God has called them to. Recorded seminars are still available until February 28, 2022 at: https://www.accelevents.com/e/mission-central-serve-2022

Mission team back from Mexico

We recently had our first short-term mission team, in over two years, come back from Mexico. While there they connected with Mario, a young man who was baptized by our team 15 years ago in Pinotepa (south Mexico). Mario joined the team in Tehuacan and came to the devotion time and door to door evangelism each day. Marion mentioned to the team leader that before joining the team he was not walking with the Lord. But how good God is by helping him grow in his faith after meeting a few young men from this team and being encouraged to take ETS Book 1 discipleship training.

I am excited to share that after many years of prayer and patiently waiting on the Lord. Our Director Valdemar in Mexico and his wife Irma arrived in Cuba on Feb. 8th to start Book 1 discipleship training with Pastor Robles and his team in Cuba. It is so exciting to see this dream come to fruition and I ask for your prayers for this trip and for future planning as we build a team of disciple makers in Cuba.

DI Golf & Dinner fundraiser on May 28-29

We are excited to once again be having the DI Golf & Dinner fundraiser on May 28-29 at Guildford Golf and Country Club after a two year absence. A slight change is that we will host the golf on Saturday, May 28th and the dinner will be held on Sunday May 29th at 6pm at Crossridge Church. Come out to golf, or golf and dinner or just for dinner. Details can be found at: at https://discipleshipint.org/events/golf-dinner-fundraiser

Until all are discipled,
Travis & Jennifer Whims
