Whims Discipleship Update July 2023

Since the last update we locally celebrated the Equip to Serve discipleship training graduation at the end of June…

We got to hear testimonies from disciples and disciplers on the deeper relationships with God and each other as they went through this training together. Tom & Arshad were two of the graduates I have been discipling and I praise God for their heart to serve God by growing to know Him and serving others. Please pray for them to continue making disciples as God brings people into their lives.

Thank you again for your faithfulness in supporting our summer mission trips. What a joy to see God use His people to support the work. Tanner and I look forward to reporting back to you all of what we see God doing in both Singapore and Kenya.

I have a couple busy travel months ahead as I head to Singapore to do some extended discipleship training with our team under Pastor Jerry at Thomson Baptist Church. After a couple days of training we will be having a graduation for those who have completed the Equip to Serve discipleship training on July 15 and I will be preaching on the subject of discipleship on the 16th.

It is a quick trip but one that has been three years in the making. Pray for the time with the brother and sisters in Singapore that they would continue to persevere in making disciples who make disciples.

Then on August 13-September 1, Tanner and I head to Kenya with a team from DI and will be joining a group from Calvary Chapels in the lower mainland for part of the trip.

Tanner will be putting on a soccer camp and we will be visiting discipleship classes, participating in the graduation on the 26th and attending a training weekend with the Kenya Navigators led by Pastor Ed Hickey from Abbotsford.

After 2 and half years of meeting with a group from Kenya, Uganda, The Congo, Rwanda and Tanzania we are looking forward to meeting in person for the first time at the Kenya graduation. Pray for the safe travel for those coming to the graduation in Kenya and for a blessed time of fellowship and encouragement as we meet together this side of heaven.

Pray for the team dynamics that we would represent Christ well and for Sebastian and Jacky who are joining us from Germany that they would be able to raise the rest of the support they need.

We currently have a team in Monterrey, Mexico working with DI Mexico and local churches doing door to door and prison ministry. Please pray as they work with our Director in Mexico Valdemar and his wife Irma and for open hearts for those they share the gospel with and follow-up with those who surrender to Christ.

Please continue to pray for our partner John in East Asia who had to leave his home, church and school because of extreme violence in the area. Also, pray for our partners in Pakistan who are being threatened with violence after a group in Sweden burned pages of a Koran. Extremists in Pakistan are calling for attacks on Christians as a result of this act.

Please also pray for our oldest son Steevenson dealing with some mental health issues. Pray that he would accept help first from Jesus and then from his family and friends and for wisdom for us as a family to love him where he is.

Always appreciate your prayers and support. Though the days can be challenging and we can face much pain, the reality is that Jesus is on the throne and the battle has already been won. Our job in the meantime is to make disciples.

Until all are discipled,

Travis & Jennifer Whims
