Whims Discipleship Update June 2024

God continues to open new opportunities for discipleship!

Pray for tonight as a group of 5 men meet together with the emphasis on sharing our quiet times, memorizing scripture and praying together. One of the men is a brand new Christian and another a Believer from the Middle East who immigrated last year. Pray for a deep time of discussion around the Word and encouragement. The plan is to meet weekly to start to build relationships around God.

The dad and sons group is continuing as we are moving forward in finishing the first book. Pray that many of the dads will desire to continue despite busy schedules. It has been great seeing the dads model and prioritize reading the Bible and studying it with their sons.

Last weekend we hosted a half day of prayer on-line allowing our International partners to join us from over 7 countries. Brothers from Bangladesh, India, Mexico and Canada shared devotions on the 4 areas of prayer we were focusing on: Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication. (ACTS). Pray for more opportunities to include our international partners in using tools for discipleship.

Our team in Mexico has been meeting monthly on-line to share about the work in Mexico, Cuba and now Guatemala for a few years now. We have decided to duplicate this model of connecting with our team in East Africa, as well, and are planning our first meeting for next week. This will build on the time together we had in person last year and encourage team building in the area of making disciples in their countries. Please pray for the Mexico group to continue to grow together and for the East Africa group with Pastors from Kenya, Tanzania, the Congo, Rwanda and Uganda to be a huge blessing to one another.

Lord willing, I will be part of a team heading to India in November to attend a graduation at our partners, STEP's, campus under the training of one of our past staff members Mita and to visit with some of the Pastors who are teaching the Equip to Serve discipleship training. One of those is John who is currently training up 15 missionaries to reach the unreached in Asia. I have shared before that John was forced to flee his home from persecution for his faith but seeing what God is doing with him in his new location is encouraging and a testimony to the fact that God uses even evil to accomplish His good.

Until all are discipled,

Travis & Jennifer Whims
