Having been discipled as a brand new Christian it left me with a lasting impression of the need to come along other Christians and teach them what it is like to be a follower of Christ. 2 Timothy 2:2. I see discipleship (moving people to become committed followers of Christ) as the only way to effectively grow the church.
I started full-time with Discipleship International in 2004 leading Equip to Serve groups and discipling men one on one. I love the relationships that come out of learning about Jesus together. I am currently focusing my overseas work in Kenya and Uganda and am blessed by the relationships that have been built with our partners Manee Kenya. My wife Jennifer and I have 5 children and our commitment to disciple them into mature believers in Christ is one of our priorities.
I have now been Director of DI for the past year and am learning to wait patiently on the Lord for his timing but also to be active each day in sowing the seeds of the Gospel. 1 Corithinas 3:6-7.
Provincial Director - Manitoba
Since coming to Christ in Feb.1978 I have had a genuine zeal from the Spirit of God too share the gospel message with others.
It wasn’t until late 1983 that a young Pastor came along side of me and discipled me. It was through his mentorship and God’s Word that His will became clear to me in that I should walk as Jesus walked in making disciples of all nations. Keeping His will in mind I set out on a journey in studying the life of Christ and learning how to practically work out what it means to make disciples of Christ, who in turn would disciple others and they others. After working with the Navigators through a number of years the Lord led me to start up Discipleship International in 1994 and in the year 2000 I went full time into the ministry.
As the new DI Provincial MB Director I enjoyed taking this next step of faith in this new work in this area. In the last four years in Manitoba God has blessed both June and I with a very fruitful ministry in making disciples, who disciple others, who in turn disciple others.
A verse I love is found in John 17:4 “I (Jesus) glorified You on earth, having accomplished the work that You gave me to do”
My challenge today is; will you follow Jesus in abiding in the will of God in making disciples, baptizing them and teaching them to obey everything Christ has commanded! (Matt.28:18-20)
Outreach Worker - Vancouver
My main responsibilities are to minister to congregants in small groups in the area of Discipleship : bible study, prayer, quiet times, outreach and overseeing their spiritual growth while maintaining Personal Spiritual Disciplines.
I have been involved with DI since 1994 when I took the ETS course and after that, I led ETS classes. In 2001 September, I became a Fulltime staff at DI.
I believe that the ETS discipleship training is used by the Lord to transform lives as the students learnt how to meet with God on a daily basis and being accountable, pray and meditate on the Word of God and learn how to memorize the Topical Bible Verses that are practical and useful for their day to day living. They also learnt how to share their faith through the Salvation Testimony and the Bridge Illustration. At the same time they are learning how to lead bible studies and leadership skills which contribute to their service in their own churches.
Over the years, I have seen many lives changed, encouraged and discipling others (2 Timothy 2:2) Some had even gone to mission's trips and became missionaries locally or globally. The ministry of Di is helping to fulfill the Lord's Commission to the church in multiplying disciples locally and globally. ( Matthew 28:19,20)
Outreach Worker - Abbotsford
I have been working with DI for the past 10 years and on staff part-time for the past six and a half years. I am involved in building people up in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Currently I am facilitating a group of young couples in Abbotsford. I have also been building into two new leaders who are beginning to disciple another group in Abbotsford. Over the past three years God has given me the opportunity to share the gospel and facilitate a bible study at the Union Gospel Mission in New Westminster. I have seen people accept Christ as their Lord and savior, be baptized, some go on to take the Equip To Serve training and others continue attending the Bible study and grow in their walk with the Lord.
I believe wholeheartedly that God has called me to the work of making disciples. I have grown in my understanding of who Christ is as I seek to fulfill the great commission. God has shown me how patient He is and how He loves the people He has created and deeply desires that they turn from their own ways and seek Him. Seeing a change of heart and joyful surrender towards Jesus Christ in those who are being discipled is the greatest blessing for me because I know that theses have an eternal effect. Discipleship is a ministry that creates lasting change in a person's life that bears fruit for many years to come. This is what enable me to persevere in the work. Praise God!
Outreach Worker - Vancouver and Philippines
What do I do as part of Discipleship International? Like all the staff, when I am in Vancouver, I fascilitate Equip To Serve training to individuals, groups in homes and churches. I also am currently finishing the condensed training of Pastors and Lay Leader in ETS training.
During May to Oct, to encourage my students and other ETS grads and leaders, I utilize my church's ministry called Trinity Cares of feeding the poor in Oppenheimer Park and Main and E. Hastings as a training ground for my ETS students to share their personal testimony and share the gospel.
During months of June and July, I am also involved in street evangelism in partnership with BC Evangelism FB group. I bring my students to learn how to witness using gospel tracts. During this time, I also assist in the graduation celebration of DI and/or fundraising events for DI.
Winters months, I usually spend time in Philippines leading a team for 2 weeks in outreach and discipleship training and sometimes we have a medical mission as part of our mission trip. I continue to fascilitate ETS classes in Philippines at FEBIAS Bible school to complete up to Book 6 condensed training of faculty staff and senior students involved in fascilitating ETS. I visit the ETS classes where I am involved in training the fascilitators and sometimes get invited to visit the fruits of my ETS students. I visit the outreaches of my ETS students. I also ensure the disbursements of the funds donated to the poor, donated Bibles and/or donated ETS books.
God says in Proverbs 16:9 in his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps With this in mind I have been guided by God's grace on a path of discipleship ever since I accepted the Lord in 2012.
Two weeks after being a new born Christian I had a hunger to learn even more of God's Word. The Lord led my wife Lynn and me to Discipleship International through a series of events that only God could have orchestrate. I began attending the Equip To Serve (ETS) discipleship training program not knowing what it was about but knowing that this is how God answered my prayer.
Since then we completed the 2 year program memorizing over 120 verses, spending quiet time with the Lord, and doing Bible study.
I have been on a mission to Japan and through Discipleship International Lynn and me have gone on missions to Africa and India.
May God's river of grace continue to pour out on Discipleship International as we spread the good news, equip others to do so, throughout the world, with respect but boldly, with compassion but without compromise.
I am at DI by the grace of God
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast". Ephesians 2:8-9
Through a friend I started my ETS training program in September 2015 and by the grace of God I started working at DI in July 2016. While learning book 1 Beginning with Christ and book 2 Live the New Life I placed all my faith and trust in God and this is where He led me.
I am at DI by faith in God
"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen". Hebrews 11:1
I believe God has led me to DI to grow in my love for Him and to serve others using the gifts He gave me.
I am at DI by love for God
"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness." Lamentations 3:22-23
I am at DI to help others focus on their calling by freeing them up to do full time disciplining while I do the back ground work.
